Entries for the Africa Geographic Photographer of the Year 2017 competition are lighting up our inbox at an incredible pace. Every week we receive hundreds of photos, however, this week there was one in particular that caught our attention.

It was one day in November 2016 when Peter Thompson and his wife were driving from one of the safari camps they manage to another one when they saw this spectacular scene above. Peter shares more:
“We were the only ones in the car. We found a leopard sleeping under the shade of a tree at about 2pm. As soon as we pulled up the leopard got up and started stalking a warthog.”

“We watched as she followed the prey into the bushes nearby, out of our sight. The warthog shot out of the bush. The leopard was in hot pursuit.”

“The warthog was able to turn and face the leopard.”

“Then, the warthog tried to attack the leopard several times but the leopard easily dodged the attacks leaping over the warthog.”

“The stand-off lasted for two minutes when the leopard decided to end it and went in for the kill.”

“My wife and I sat there for a couple of minutes after trying to grasp what we had just witnessed.”
