Itinerary

On arrival at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi you will be met by an Africa Geographic representative and transferred to Tamarind Tree Hotel. Let us know if you wish to explore any of Nairobi’s popular attractions or dining venues, and we will gladly arrange a programme tailored to your needs.

Overnight at Tamarind Tree Hotel (bed and breakfast)

Shortly after breakfast, you will be transferred to Wilson Domestic Airport (10-minutes by car) for your one-hour flight to the Maasai Mara Keekorok Airport, which is within the national reserve and only a stone’s throw away from Enkewa Camp.

The thrill of spotting your first elephant or zebra as you come into land is a befitting hors d’oeuvres for what you are about to see and experience in the Mara.

Enjoy lunch at Enkewa Camp before heading out onto the Maasai Mara plains for your first game drive.

Enkewa Camp’s philosophy of tracking and searching for its own wildlife sightings far from the transited areas, makes the Enkewa Camp safari experience amongst the best in the Maasai Mara. It is located in superb Big 5 country - with access to four different lion prides within minutes from camp, as well as the best leopard territory inside the reserve. The black rhino density in the area is the highest in the Maasai Mara-Serengeti ecosystem.

Your skilled and experienced Maasai tracker and driver will use their skills to find the best opportunities to observe wildlife. Travelling in custom-built 4×4 vehicles you will have privileged access to the most remote places (and also avoid the more crowded routes of the Mara) to enjoy the reserve by yourself in somewhat greater privacy. Many iconic wildlife species such as elephant, hippopotamus, giraffe, Grant’s and Thompson’s gazelle, plains zebra, topi, warthog and buffalo are also common first sightings.

Overnight at Enkewa Camp (full board).

After an early-morning mug of steamy fresh Kenyan coffee you will head out on your morning drive into the plains of the Mara in search of species that may be returning from their nocturnal forays, or waking up and getting ready for the day.

Breakfast is normally packed into a basket and served during your morning game-viewing safari.

During the height of the wildebeest migration (end of July through to October), your day will be filled with large herds of wildebeest, dazzling zebras and the epic drama of the Mara River crossings. The river poses a major obstacle in their way, and the herds’ momentum drives the show that ensues. You will soon realise why the migration is referred to as “The Greatest Show on Earth”.

During the migration, a full day out can be arranged. Your guide will approach each sighting to ensure that you enjoy the show. Patience is key, and river crossings don’t happen every day. That said, there is no such thing as getting bored in the Mara, and every day spent here is more than duly rewarded.

Several children-friendly activities and programs have also been developed; please do not hesitate to ask.

After breakfast, you will visit the Sand River waterfalls where you'll discover a very photogenic enclave with unique rock formations – it is also a spectacular spot for a quick dip or swim as the heat builds.

An optional activity is to visit a traditional Maasai village in the evening. This genuine and jovial affair will allow you to experience the lovely hospitality of the beautiful Maasai people.

Overnight at Enkewa Camp (full board)

After your last wake-up call in Enkewa, you will set off with your bags on your last morning safari game drive with a picnic breakfast on board. From there, you will head to Keekorok Airstrip to catch your one-hour flight to Wilson. On arrival at Wilson Airport, an Africa Geographic representative will transfer you to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport where you will check in for your return flight home.
