On a morning game drive at Kafunta Safaris in May, guests spotted a few lions stalking some zebras.
After watching the lions’ failed attempt to hunt the zebras, we expected them to settle down for the day. However, they were just warming up for their next target, which came in the form of a young elephant that happened to wander by at the wrong time. A chase ensued, and we watched in amazement as one of the lions managed to climb up on to the elephant’s back.
Remarkably the elephant escaped with just a few scratches!
Teeming with wildlife, this kind of unforgettable game viewing is just one of the many things that makes the unspoilt wilderness of the South Luangwa National Park so special.
