A touch of Madikwe magic

Increasing numbers of guests are looking for a large Big Five game reserve that doesn’t attract the big crowds, and Madikwe Game Reserve in South Africa is an excellent choice.

In addition to being Big Five territory, Madikwe is also malaria-free – a big plus for families with young children and for those who cannot take malaria prophylactics for medical reasons. Madikwe is Kalahari country, near the Botswana border and an easy drive from Johannesburg.

Malcolm Wells and five other Tasmanians spent time in Madikwe as part of a Botswana/South Africa safari put together by the Africa Geographic travel team, and had this feedback:

Favourite moment? “Sitting between two male lions at night, no more than 15 metres from them, listening to them roaring.”

The guide? “Our Madikwe guide, Francois, was something else. His quiet professionalism and knowledge shone through every time. We were at the forefront of most of the sightings, he understood the needs of photographers, we all felt privileged to have spent the time with him.”

Your accommodation? “All our accommodation was excellent, food was first class and staff friendly and very accommodating.”

Would you travel with Africa Geographic again? “Yes, yes, yes! As someone who has spent a lifetime working in tourism, I can only say that if all agents were as effective as Africa Geographic has been we would have an even more amazing and rewarding industry.”
