Recently I spotted this active family of spotted hyenas living under a rock outcrop in Amboseli National Park. The family consisted of three adults, three very young pups without their spots and several older juveniles.
The puppies were extremely inquisitive and playful but the mother was trying to wean them and on several occasions had to growl and force them away. It was a rare and wonderful opportunity to watch this kind of interaction with an animal that is often just passed by.
