Expedition Okavango is now underway! At the beginning of May, Josh Iremonger and Daniel Dugmore set off on a three month canoe descent of the Cubango-Okavango River Basin.

Over the course of their journey, they will take on six crocodile and hippo infested rivers, three African countries (Angola, Namibia and Botswana), and navigate their way around some of Africa’s least explored areas.

Since setting off, the expedition’s Twitter and Facebook feed has followed a stream of sightings. These excerpts highlight the adventure at its best:

“Could be our first elephant sign; water lily roots ripped up floating in the river.”

“First white-backed night heron! BOOM!”

“Stunning bend, powerful currents full of tiger fish. Hippos and crocs seem to favour it too.”

“Biggest croc to date on last bend!!!!!”

“Listening to jackal & hippos in the distance. Another beaut spot high on the banks of the Cuito River, Angola.”

“Just hooked into my first Cuito tigerfish on fly, BOOM! Catch & release”.

Josh and Daniel are aiming for their expedition to raise awareness and US$75,000 for Rhinos Without Borders. The charity, a co-operation between the safari tourism industry and the Botswana government, will translocate rhinos from high poaching areas in southern parts of Africa to safe havens in Botswana.

One of the best parts of their expedition is the opportunity for intrepid spirits to join Josh and Daniel at two separate points in Botswana. These trips depart on the 8-15th of June 2015 and the 15th-21st of June 2015.
