Our Photographer of the Year 2025 is open for submissions. The overall winners, runners up and their partners will enjoy a teamAG safari to explore the primal forests of Odzala-Kokoua National Park in the remote north of Congo-Brazzaville – in search of lowland gorillas, forest elephants, forest buffaloes, bongos and much more. Read more about the Photographer of the Year 2025 prizes here. In association with Ukuri and African Parks.

Photographer of the Year is open for entries from 1 February 2025 to midnight on 30 April 2025. Judging will take place throughout those months and for the month of May 2025, and the winners of Photographer of the Year will be announced in early June 2025.

Here are the best Photographer of the Year submissions for this week

Two black-maned lions face off in a ferocious battle. “The confrontation was nothing short of brutal, as claws tore through fur and powerful jaws snapped with deadly force. Both lions demonstrated unmatched determination, but eventually, one was forced to concede. The defeated male retreated with a bruised ego and a collection of deep, fresh scars.”  Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, South Africa. © Hannes Lochner

The Abbaa Gadaa power transition, a ritual of democracy older than many nations, unfolds with accompanying celebrations. Here, the Borana Oromo reaffirm their lineage, their governance, and their unbroken connection to a system that has stood the test of time. This operates on an eight-year cyclical leadership transition, where power is peacefully transferred from one ruling class to the next. The leader is elected through a democratic process and assumes responsibility for guiding the community, resolving conflicts, and upholding customary laws. Oromia, Ethiopia. © Ashenafi Yemane

Handcrafted experiential safaris since 1991.

Travel in Africa is about knowing when and where to go, and with whom. A few weeks too early/late or a few kilometres off course, and you could miss the greatest show on Earth. And wouldn’t that be a pity?
