The honey badgers at Moholoholo Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre are masters of chaos! This male honey badger, named Stoffel, had been hand-raised by someone and at two years old he was brought to Moholoholo as he had become too troublesome for his owner. Moholoholo allowed him to roam freely around their facility, but he very quickly became a problem, continually causing chaos in the kitchen.

Stoffel also had another problem; he had practically no sense of smell and a constant runny nose that even extensive treatment failed to fix. Due to all of this, the staff at Moholoholo made the tough decision to put him into an enclosure.

Stoffel the honey badger is now approximately 18 years old, and during his time at the rehabilitation centre, he has had many “girlfriends” that have subsequently been released back into the wild. The female that is currently with him was also hand raised until she too became too much for her owner to handle. The staff is reluctant to release her as they are very concerned for her safety in the wild as honey badgers are often viewed as pests and with her being so tame she would be at high risk of being shot by local people. She now stays with Stoffel at Moholoholo will they will undoubtedly live a long live of mischief together.
