The perfect bush and beach break

A holiday to Africa doesn’t have to be only about early game drives, searching out the Big Five and bushveld braais. This amazing continent offers so much more than just safaris and offers a range of experiences to any type of traveller. One of our favourite things to do when planning a bush break is to add in a little beach bumble to top off the ultimate vacation.

Africa’s plethora of coastal towns offer a range of sand and sea to keep any beach baby happy and a relaxing week by the ocean is the perfect match to those early mornings and late nights on safari. Our personal favourite is to combine a trip to Kruger National Park, South Africa’s flagship park, with a beach stop at Vilanculos in Mozambique.

Kruger, home to a myriad of mammal species and over 500 bird species, is perfect for safari enthusiasts – weather you are a first timer or an old bush hand, one cannot possibly get bored. Days are best spent enjoying game drives, walks through the veld, and beer around the boma.

A short air transfer from the lodge airstrips or Skukuza Airport to Nelspruit KMIA connects you conveniently to Vilanculos in Mozambique which is the gateway to the beautiful Bazaruto and Benguerra Islands.

Airlink flies between Johannesburg and Vilanculos five days a week, with a flight time of one hour and forty minutes. This stunning coastal town is the epitome of a beach getaway with white sand beaches, palm trees, and turquoise balmy waters. Here you can enjoy an R&R (a traditional rum and raspberry combination), come eye to eye with the fishes while snorkelling, and spend your days relaxing with beach picnics, sunshine and a good book.
