Moremi Game Reserve lies at the heart of the Okavango Delta and is the only formally protected section. Moremi is owned by the local BaTawana tribe and is named after their Chief Moremi.
At 5,000km2, the Big 5 Moremi makes up about one-third of the entire Okavango Delta area, including Chief's Island and the dryland Moremi Tongue on the eastern side. Habitat types include deepwater channels, lagoons, floodplains, riverine forests, mopane woodland and acacia forests (an ideal safari landscape)
