Trust us to find you the rarest animals, the most spectacular wildlife events, the remotest landscapes and deeply meaningful cultural encounters!

The Spice Islands - Zanzibar, Pemba & Mafia

The Spice Islands - Zanzibar (Unguja), Pemba, Mafia and a host of smaller associated islands serve as beach retreats and watersports havens for all budgets and privacy expectations.

The name alone conjures up romantic images of spice markets, palm-fringed white-sand beaches and ancient dhows on a calm turquoise sea – and happily, the reality doesn’t disappoint. Only a short distance from the Tanzania coast but at the crossroads of ancient trade routes between Africa, the Middle East and Asia, Zanzibar offers a cultural sensory experience of note.

On the largest island - Zanzibar (or Unguja) - go on spice tours, taste local dishes and walk the cobbled streets of the capital’s old quarter - Stone Town. Now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Stone Town buzzes with colourful back-street markets and local flavours with its labyrinth of coralline ragstone and mangrove timber architecture that harks back to its former life as a Swahili trading port. And then, of course, there are the Zanzibar beaches - ideal for anyone yearning for a lazy, luxurious beach vacation. Zanzibar also offers rocky shores with private jetties and the coastal mangrove forest of Jozani Forest Reserve.

Zanzibar, Pemba, Mafia and many smaller outlying islands are home to some of the finest beaches in East Africa and several of its best dive sites.

Why choose us to craft your safari?

Handcrafted experiential safaris since 1991.

Travel in Africa is about knowing when and where to go, and with whom. A few weeks too early/late or a few kilometres off course, and you could miss the greatest show on Earth. And wouldn’t that be a pity?
