Trust us to find you the rarest animals, the most spectacular wildlife events, the remotest landscapes and deeply meaningful cultural encounters!
Hwange is situated on the fringes of the Kalahari Desert in the northwestern corner of Zimbabwe, bordering Botswana. Famous for its massive buffalo and elephant herds and large male lions, Hwange also hosts one of Africa's largest wild dog (painted wolf) populations. Encounters with cheetahs, leopards, aardwolves, aardvarks, and roan and sable antelopes are also relatively regular occurrences.
Once a royal hunting area for Mzilikazi, the Mthwakazi king, Hwange’s shallow soils and scarce water resources made it unsuitable for agriculture. With the addition of artificial water points fed by boreholes, animal populations have flourished, and Hwange has become a major safari destination.
The 14,651km2 (1.46 million hectares) unfenced park is part of the greater Kavango-Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area, which centres around the confluence of the Zambezi and Chobe Rivers and includes protected areas in Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Angola.

Why choose us to craft your safari?
Handcrafted experiential safaris since 1991.
Travel in Africa is about knowing when and where to go, and with whom. A few weeks too early/late or a few kilometres off course, and you could miss the greatest show on Earth. And wouldn’t that be a pity?
