Trust us to find you the rarest animals, the most spectacular wildlife events, the remotest landscapes and deeply meaningful cultural encounters!
The mokoro is a flat-bottomed canoe used by local people in Botswana to move around in the shallow waters of the Okavango Delta and Chobe River. Oarsmen stand in the stern and push with a pole. Mokoro is a Setswana term (plural mekoro).
Mokoro safaris are a popular activity for tourists. Glide down water channels and view life from a unique low perspective (great for photography!) as you look out for colourful birds, frogs and rarely-seen species such as otters and sitatungas. Watch this video.
Mekoro were traditionally made from large straight trees such as African ebony and sausage trees, but these days they are usually made from fibreglass.
The safaris below are to areas where mokoro outings are possible when water levels are high enough. Speak to your teamAG consultant about water levels during your safari
This will only take a moment and yet the information will enable us to begin handcrafting your safari of a lifetime. Or book a call with a safari expert.
Why choose us to craft your safari?
Handcrafted experiential safaris since 1991.
Travel in Africa is about knowing when and where to go, and with whom. A few weeks too early/late or a few kilometres off course, and you could miss the greatest show on Earth. And wouldn’t that be a pity?
