Klaserie Sands River Camp, set on the Ntsiri River in the centre of the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve, is an owner-managed lodge that sets the standard for providing top class food and service in a laid-back manner.

From your very first visit at Klaserie Sands River Camp you will feel like you have arrived home. The expansive wooden deck, set under the shade of huge jackalberry trees and overlooking a busy waterhole, provides the perfect place for you to hang out all day, cool refreshment in hand, watching the constant coming and going of wildlife.

During a recent stay at Klaserie Sands, Africa Geographic’s CEO Simon Espley, enjoyed a multitude of Big Five sightings.

One of many found him surrounded by 18 lions near a buffalo carcass, crunching the last few ribs. Most were feral-looking young males, perhaps pushed out by the dominant males further north? Leaving this sighting and driving a few kilometres away for sundowners, he came across a large male leopard who was relaxing on the same riverside rocks.

The following morning, he awoke to a herd of 30 elephants drinking at the waterhole in front of the lodge deck. Downing his lime and soda, he tore himself away, loaded up the rental car and headed out – only to spend 30 minutes waiting in the shade of a mopane grove for the same herd to move on. A few very large bulls surrounded him and lingered, tossing ear-claps now and then, and kicking up dust – they seemed to enjoy keeping him waiting. Eventually they moved off and so did he, on to the next adventure, but all the while thinking, “one day I want to live in a home just like Klaserie Sands.”

You can win a two night stay for two at the beautiful Klaserie Sands River Camp in our Photographer of the Year competition! The prize is inclusive of daily game drives and bush walks, all meals and a selection of beverages.
