Wildlife . People . Travel

As a photographic enthusiast and not a professional, I decided to take part in Africa Geographic Travel‘s wildlife photographic course in Zimanga Private Game Reserve recently.

As a five-day photographic course in Kwa-Zulu Natal, experienced wildlife photographers Andrew Aveley (Canon pro-photographer) and Brendon Jennings (Head guide at Zimanga Private Game Reserve) used game drive vehicles and Zimanga’s state-of-the-art photographic hides to ensure superb wildlife photographic opportunities for all the guests.

Africa’s first photographic reserve includes 6,000 ha of pristine bushveld, fever tree forests and rolling hills. It is bisected by the Mkuze River and is home to a huge variety of wildlife and over 400 bird species.

During the safari experience, we stayed at Nkonkoni Fishing Camp and the accommodation was well appointed and very comfortable. But what really sets the game reserve apart is the recent addition of several photographic hides, which make Zimanga an incredible reserve that offers fantastic opportunities for the photographic enthusiast.

I would like to extend my sincere thanks and gratitude to the Africa Geographic team for offering this exceptional package. With particular thanks to Andrew Aveley and Brendon Jennings for their exceptional patience and tolerance shown in both the photographical workshops and in their seeking to find such incredible shooting opportunities both from the game vehicle, by foot and in the various hides. Their dedication and passion for what they clearly so enjoy was always very evident.

It was a truly wonderful experience, and the knowledge passed on to me will always be appreciated and long remembered.

And even though there were many fantastic experiences such as walking with wild dog and cheetah on the reserve, the most memorable part of the trip was definitely when we successfully tracked a leopard!
