We were parked on a bush road in Chobe National Park, Botswana, quietly watching a herd of elephants drinking and playing in the water. After about 10 minutes this young bull broke away from the relaxed herd and took on our similarly-sized trailer, delivering a perfectly-timed reverse kick before moving away – game over.

The bull was pretty playful and I put his action down to youthful exuberance and to testing his strength against a similarly sized ‘opponent’. None of the herd reacted to his actions, so they probably also viewed this as just another test of strength.
