What does the perfect safari mean to you? Seeing a huge herd of elephants crossing the Chobe River, African wild dogs feasting on a kill or perhaps a sunset in the stunning Serengeti?
Belmond Safaris, to celebrate the reopening of their refurbished Belmond Eagle Island Lodge, decided to get to the heart of the question with a contest that asked Instagram users to post photos that summarised their ideal safari experience.
Entries to the contest were wonderfully diverse. Many showcased the remarkable African wildlife to convey what the essence of safari means to them.
Some captured a spectacular African sunset painting the sky in shades of red, orange and yellow.
Others took a different approach and dived into the deepest corners of their hearts in search for the ultimate meaning of a safari.
Others took a safari journey down memory lane and reminisced about their past safari moments.
And a few contestants stood behind the statement ‘a picture is worth a thousand words’, and decided to let their photos speak for themselves.
From elephants, zebras, leopards and all other magnificent creatures, to colourful sunsets and bygone safari memories, there is simply no denying that the concept of the perfect safari is unique to each person who experiences it. You don’t simply go on a safari. You feel a safari by living it.
