AFRICA GEOGRAPHIC PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR 2015 WINNER + AUDIENCE FAVOURITES
Congratulations to Chris Renshaw for his exceptional winning image of a young vervet monkey trapped by a leopard. Chris wins a Canon 700D Ultimate Bundle to the value of R13,999, a Premier Safaris Pearl of Africa photographic safari with Albie Venter to the value of US$15,682, and one month’s use of a Volkswagen from The Glen Volkswagen.
This was an incredibly tough decision. The standard of the runner’s up – Trevor Cole’s image of a Suri child looking out from its mother’s shawl, and Aaron Gekoski’s image of a school of fish towering over a diver – was very high indeed. Both were beautifully executed images exemplifying the best photographic principles of light, composure and subject. But this once in a lifetime scene captured by Chris, the balance of the moment tipped in favour of one creature and the peril of the other, the mirrored positioning of the two creatures and the expression on the monkey’s face add up to a scene which you will likely never see again.
Thank you to our audience for taking this photographic journey with us through this wonderful continent. We look forward to the next one! And a very special thank you to our photographic jury leader Heinrich van den Berg for his expertise and valuable guidance.
