Ranger dog gored by kudu, recovering well
Anti-poaching ranger dog ‘Akita’ was gored this week by a kudu bull while on early morning patrol near her home base of Letaba in the Kruger National Park.
Akita and her handlers were walking through a dense stand of riverine bush when they encountered 4 kudu bulls. One of the bulls attacked Akita, goring her with his sharp horns. Akita was patched up by a section ranger and paramedic before before being flown by helicopter to a veterinary hospital for treatment. She is on anti-biotics and recovering well.
