Guests at Etali Safari Lodge in the Madikwe Game Reserve have recently had the good fortune of spotting two leopards on a single afternoon game drive with head ranger, Evan Vermeulen.

The first leopard was seen in the late afternoon and posed for some stunning portrait pictures before moving off. The second sighting was of a male leopard dragging an impala carcass towards a nearby tree at around 7.30pm. Leopards will often stash fresh kills in trees to protect them from scavengers. However, in this case, there were no other predators around so it decided to save its energy and just started eating the impala straight away.

Evan returned to the scene the next morning by which time the remains of the impala had been dutifully stowed away in the tree and the blood trail covered up with sand.
