Why the Serengeti was voted the best park in Africa for safaris

The Serengeti National Park in Tanzania has recently been voted the best park in Africa for safaris based on 3,008 reviews conducted by SafariBookings. This survey compiled reviews from users, guidebook authors and other industry experts to create a definitive list of the top 50 safari parks in Africa.

But why is this park so much better than all the rest?

There are a number of reasons why the Serengeti scored so highly, but most notably is the rich diversity and concentration of wildlife throughout the year.

Not only does the park have the famous Big Five, it is also one of the best places to see other big cats and predators.

On top of the renowned Great Migration, which sees millions of zebra and wildebeest traverse the plains and rivers whilst trying to avoid lions and crocodiles, all these reasons make the Serengeti National Park top class.

Customer reviews showed that they felt the endless plains of the Serengeti were the “authentic Africa,” and Paul Callcutt, the Natural World Safaris destination expert, agrees. He said: “Serengeti is one of my favourite parks in Africa. Perhaps nowhere else in Africa is able to offer the far reaching plains that so many of us associate with the classic African safari.”

Visitors to the park also have the chance to take a magnificent hot air balloon ride over the plains, which is particularly special during the Great Migration, to take in unbeatable aerial views of the park and its wildlife.

The Serengeti scored an impressive average rating of 4.89 out of 5 and remarkably, reviewers who had been on multiple safaris scored it 16% higher than other parks. It is, therefore, a great choice for first-time safari-goers and veterans alike.

All in all, the Serengeti National Park has an abundance of birds and wildlife, striking landscapes and an agreeable climate. Add to that its accessibility and ease of combining a visit with other great parks in Tanzania, and you’re on to a winner!
