Exploring the wonderful wilds of Malawi, Zambia, and now Zimbabwe – Robin Pope Safaris is excited to announce its expansion into Zimbabwe within Mana Pools National Park.
On the banks of the mighty Zambezi River, nestled amongst the canopies of Trichelia and Mahogany trees, is where you will find the newest Robin Pope Safaris property, John’s Camp. Formally known as The Mana Pools Safari Company, the new tented camp will be relocated to a semi-permanent site and open from April to November each year.
Named after renowned African safari guide, John Stevens, John’s Camp keeps to its original walking safari roots. The venerable Mr. Stevens joined Zimbabwe National Parks over 50 years ago and has worked in and around Mana Pools ever since. He will be available to guide guests at camp on request for the ultimate in guiding know-how.
It doesn’t get more wild than walking in Mana Pools, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the last wild walking parks in Africa, with a pioneer of the safari industry such as John.
In Mana Pools, you have the freedom to walk without a park ranger, but guests at John’s Camp will always be accompanied by a fully licensed and armed professional guide. The walking terrain is a unique flood plain making for pleasant and light walks with the elephants.
Back at camp, five charming en-suite tents enjoy stunning views across a flood plain towards the Zambezi River. The concept is simple, but the experience is an intimate one in a secluded setting governed by nature.
Some of the most memorable nights are spent dining in the open with a herd of buffalo, sipping sundowners with the mud-wallowing hippos, or listening to the many birds chatter into the night and wee hours of the morning. Sometimes, if you’re lucky, one of the friendly gentle giants of the area will join the group for a bush breakfast or lunch (the food is that good).
The more adventurous souls have the option to sleep under the night stars in a ‘mozzie-net dome-like’ tent. These are also known as star beds and are setup away from the main camp. Alternatively, guests can easy into the star bed experience and spend a night on the stargazing platform raised five metres off the ground (being built soon).
Walk, dine, sleep, repeat. In the simplest of terms, this is how the safari story goes at John’s Camp, along with exceptional service, great game viewing, and top-notch guides.
To celebrate the beginning of our story in Zimbabwe, we are offering a 15% discount per person per night for any new bookings at John’s Camp between now and the 14th of May 2017. We hope to welcome you soon!
