It was with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Anthony Hall-Martin, conservation director of African Parks, this morning, 21 May 2014.
In communication with African Parks, we were told that Anthony died peacefully surrounded by his family in hospital in Somerset West where he had been admitted as his prolonged struggle against cancer came to an end.
Chief Executive Officer of African Parks Network, Peter Fearnhead wrote: “Anthony has been a mentor, colleague, friend and inspiration, not only to myself, but to all at African Parks since its inception. My colleagues and I are devastated at his passing, but we are also thankful for the privilege we have enjoyed in working with him and benefitting from his wisdom, wit and guidance over so many years. He has left a significant conservation legacy for the world and he will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.”
We at Africa Geographic join Africa Parks in extending our heartfelt condolences to Anthony’s family, knowing that his drive and determination has inspired many to face the immense challenges of wildlife conservation.
