After getting some much needed rain at Sosian Ranch in Laikipia Country in Kenya, I came across this big bull elephant who was determined to make the most of the recent water supply by turning a small dam of water into his personal deluxe mud bath.

After churning up a rather small natural waterhole with his feet, he managed to build up a good consistency of mud. He then spent the next 10 minutes rolling, sitting, and splashing around in a puddle-sized patch of mud.

The massive bull even trumpeted with glee as he continued his spa treatment, giving up all manliness and composure. Finally he was well covered in thick red mud and he moved off into the bushes to continue his day.

Sosian Lodge

Sosian is a 24,000 acre wildlife ranch in Kenya, which was re-habilitated to become a vital wildlife haven in this area. We pride ourselves on managing an entirely sustainable and unique blend of conservation, tourism and traditional cattle ranching in Laikipia’s highlands. The beautiful ranch house accommodates up to 14 people against a back drop of Mt Kenya. The lodge has a swimming pool, tennis court and a stable yard of 30 safari horses. Besides game drives and horse riding, guests can also walk, camel trek, fish, fly camp, kayak, cattle ranch and jump off the stunning waterfalls.
