Day Trading & Travelling in East Africa

At the time that I became curious about exploring Africa I had only really experienced life in western cultures and I wanted to get to know unfamiliar territory.

I was born in Venezuela and moved to the USA when I was very young. Its your typical rags to riches story. I was going to be leaving my then base in Colombia and I was running out of places to visit in South America. I wanted something different, something new, something completely out of my comfort zone…

The world is a  big place. I could have chosen the Middle East or Asia as my next destination. I refuse to travel anywhere in Europe because that’s what everyone does. My concept on travel is to go way off the beaten track, the whole point behind my travels is to visit places that people don’t dare go. Everyone travels to Europe…

The only downside to leading a nomadic and slightly wayward kind of life is that sometimes you encounter places that don’t have internet. I am a day trader by profession and one day I just picked up and left to start travelling around the world.  I finance my travels by day trading my own account and also teaching others how to trade online. Hence my name – The Wandering Trader.

I share my stories not to make money off my travels but to inspire people to live their dreams and to shatter misconceptions. One day I looked at a map and I wondered… what is Africa like this time of year? How many people do I know that have been to Somaliland, South Sudan, Ethiopia, or even Madagascar?  I like to think of myself as the one man CNN, breaking down barriers.

During my time in East Africa I lived and travelled in the following countries:

  • Ethiopia
  • Kenya
  • Madagascar
  • Rwanda
  • Somaliland (Somalia)
  • South Sudan
  • Tanzania
  • Uganda
  • Zimbabwe
  • Zambia

At times I found myself in some dangerous situations. Like the time I got arrested and detained in South Sudan – the newest country in the world.

But we’ll leave that story for another day…
