You’ve heard of Cape Town being referred to as the ‘Mother City’? Did you know that she’s a ‘Yummy Mummy’ too?

We strode down many an interesting trail, some trodden and some less so, falling head over heels for mother Cape Town on this gourmet walking tour led by a gourmand herself; local guide Pam of Cape Fusion Tours.  Pam’s expertly charted course steered us toward local treasure troves bursting with local delights, larger than life characters and well-made local trinkets so reasonably priced, even a local’s purse strings could be easily undone!

Taste tip top township nosh of maize meal pap and beef stew in the Cape Town train station upper plaza and finally, in Wale Street you will find delectable organic raw chocolate to be followed by a cup of Fair Trade goodness. At the end of the day, you can even sip wine produced from the oldest vine in the Southern Hemisphere on Heritage Square. A limited vintage of beautifully crafted chenin blanc would be a wine collector’s treasure.

5) Up your street cred: The intimate knowledge of the Malay Quarter, the lesser visited station market, Oriental Plaza, Heritage Square and many other hole-in-the-wall eateries, you will have at the end of this tour will blow your friends, colleagues and even your in-law’s minds collectively.

Despite the amount of steps counted on your pedometer, your appetite will need to be at its fiercest. You need a basic level of fitness, your wits about you and an open mind to enjoy this tour to the fullest (if you’ll pardon the pun).
