TEDxCapeTown 2015 will be tackling difficult questions this 15th and 16th August with some great Cape Town speakers on the lineup.
Dedicated to ‘Ideas Worth Spreading’, TEDxCapeTown promises to offer inspired, insightful conversation starters with lots of opportunities to connect with fellow audience members and the speakers themselves. The audience will also be able to expect three surprise performances by local artists.
The 13 speaker strong South African line-up this year includes conservationist and adventurer, Braam Malherbe, who is an ambassador for My School My Village MyPlanet. Along with Pete van Kets, he will soon be embarking on a circumnavigation around the Tropic of Capricorn, which will cover 38,000km in 15 months and involve zero carbon emissions. The expedition will be televised and their aim is to ‘connect’ 1 billion people around the globe to Do One Thing (DOT) for the planet, which is what his talk this weekend will focus on.
Meanwhile, Ian Mccallum, a former rugby Springbok, trustee of the Cape Leopard Trust, and a wilderness guide will be talking about poetry and nature. As the author of multiple publications including two anthologies of wilderness poems, his book, Ecological Intelligence – Rediscovering Ourselves in Nature, won the Wild Literary Award at the World Wilderness Congress in 2009.
TEDxCapeTown will be taking place at the City Hall in Cape Town and expert speakers have created engaging and exciting talks with topics range from colonising Mars, and poetry in Africa, to working with our healthcare system to reduce mortality rates.
