World class surfers head to Jeffreys Bay in South Africa to ride-out the legendary ‘supertubes’ this July.
Rated seventh in the world, Jordy Smith will be returning to his favourite wave in the world, ‘supertubes’ in Jeffreys Bay.
I love surfing at Jeffreys Bay…I spent so much time surfing there when I was younger, and it always feels good to come back to J-Bay – Jordy Smith.
This year the contest is an ASP 6-Star event, opening up the tournament to a wealth of local South African talent, along with the top ranked World Championship Tour surfers such as John John Florence and fourth-ranked Adriano de Souza. ‘Supertubes’, a 300 metre stretch of racetrack walls and cavernous hollow cylinders is universally acknowledged as one of the planets top 10 high performance surf breaks.
With ZAR 1.2 million prize money at stake, the competition is scheduled over a 5-day window period to allow for selection of the best big-swell waves. “This year is going to be another year of amazing competitive surfing at the Billabong Pro,” said Billabong South Africa Marketing Manager Chad D’Arcy. For those able to make the mission up South Africa’s east coast, the Billabong Pro is renowned for its wild beach parties and live music lineup.
