Akita and her handlers were walking through a dense stand of riverine bush when they encountered 4 kudu bulls. One of the bulls attacked Akita, goring her with his sharp horns. Akita was patched up by a section ranger and paramedic before before being flown by helicopter to a veterinary hospital for treatment. She is on anti-biotics and recovering well. Information supplied by Mandi Malan on the SANParks Ranger Dogs Facebook group page.
