Escape the hustle and bustle of city life and go on an adventure to the remote Mozambican shores of Lake Malawi. From near-deserted beaches to the many water sports on offer, this area is an explorer’s paradise and is definitely one of Africa’s best kept secrets. Here are just five reasons to get your feet wet with a visit to Mozambique’s Nkwichi Lodge.

1. Nature at its finest

Author, Rachel Carson wrote, “Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts. There is something infinitely healing in the repeated refrains of nature — the assurance that dawn comes after night, and spring after winter.”

Surrounded by the stunning beauty of Miombo woodlands, at Nkwichi Lodge you well be in close proximity to nature. All our hand crafted chalets are in the middle of lush green vegetation. Wake up to nature’s songs, have your morning coffee or tea staring out to picture-perfect views and dine under the shade of some stunning trees. Watch the stunning sunsets over the lake with your Malawi gin and tonic.

2. Lake and beach

Nothing beats relaxing on a beach with a book and a fresh water lake a couple of metres away just in case you need to cool down. With soft, sandy beaches set over a stretch of 4km along the shores of Lake Niassa, we offer some of the most secluded beaches in the world.

3. People and culture

‘Zikomo’, which means ‘thank you’ in the local Nyanja language, is the most common word you will encounter here at Nkwichi Lodge. Our staff, are some of the most friendly people you will ever come across in the world. Known for their warm hearted welcoming smiles and general laid back approach, they will ensure your Nkwichi experience is one you will never forget.

4. Adventure

Planes, automobiles, boats and sometimes even trains are just some of the many adventurous ways to get to us. This said, set in a remote part of Mozambique, the final leg can only be done by boat. Lake Niassa has been described as having the feel of a sea, and waves as high as two metres only enhances this! Surfing, diving, kayaking and paddling are just some of the many adventures you can experience on the lake.

5. Remoteness

In this day and age of technology, it is hard to switch off from everything, be it work, friends or family. Here, the only wireless connection is one to nature. This remote region offers the perfect balance if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle on the modern world. Whether it is camping in the wilderness, relaxing on the beach or learning about a new culture, Nkwichi offers a unique experience set in a remote and stunning setting.
